1.2.2 Brief History
How the chapter emerged, organized itself, and gained formal recognition.
The idea of creating a PELUM Association chapter in the Democratic Republic of Congo emerged from consultations held in the eastern part of the country, where thirty-one civil society organizations supported the establishment of a national PELUM platform and the request for affiliation to PELUM Association.
Ten founding organizations signed the Constitution of PELUM RDC during the Constituent General Assembly held on October 19, 2019. These included ASOP Congo, ASOPD-GL, ABES Congo, Agir Ensemble, CEDERU, CAPA, CEPED, CFAP, JUDE, and SOCADI.
After an evaluation mission of the Regional Secretariat Committee of PELUM Association in 2023, a report was presented to the Continental Board. In accordance with the constitution and internal regulations of PELUM Association, PELUM RDC was provisionally admitted into the Green Africa network, and the decision was made official during the Triennial General Assembly held in Arusha from September 27 to 29, 2024.
As a result, the Democratic Republic of Congo became the fourteenth member country of PELUM Association. The head office of PELUM RDC is located at No. 10 Avenue de Misée, Quartier Himbi, Commune of Goma, City of Goma, Province of North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo.
1.2.2 Brief History of PELUM-RDC
From idea to chapter, from registration to continental membership.
The idea of creating a PELUM Association chapter in the Democratic Republic of Congo arose from consultations held in two eastern provinces of the DRC, where 31 civil society organizations supported the idea of creating a PELUM chapter and requested affiliation with PELUM Association.
Ten non-governmental organizations signed the Constitution of PELUM RDC during the Constituent General Assembly on October 19, 2019 and officially created the chapter in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Historical Notes
Following its creation, PELUM DRC experienced an interruption during the COVID-19 period. Activities resumed in 2023 through registration with the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice under number F.92/53.831 of June 2, 2023 and through agricultural-sector partnership recognition by the Ministry of Agriculture under Registration Certificate No. 5011/595/DDEA/S.G/AGRI/LIN/2023 of September 28, 2023.
PELUM DRC obtained legal personality by Ministerial Decree No. 082/CAB/M.E/MIN/J&GS/2024 of October 2, 2024. In accordance with the constitution and internal regulations of PELUM Association, PELUM DRC was officially admitted as the fourteenth member country during the Triennial General Assembly held in Arusha from September 27 to 29, 2024.
