Background
An overview of who we are, where we come from and what we stand for.
Participatory Ecological Land Use Management of the Democratic Republic of Congo (PELUM DRC) is a chapter of PELUM Association. It was created on October 19, 2019 in Goma by ten civil society organizations from North Kivu and South Kivu. After a pause during the COVID-19 period, activities resumed in 2023 through formal registration and partnership recognition in the agricultural sector.
PELUM DRC obtained legal personality by Ministerial Decree No. 082/CAB/M.E/MIN/J&GS/2024 of October 2, 2024. It currently brings together seventeen member organizations from five provinces of the DRC: North Kivu, South Kivu, Maniema, Ituri and the city of Kinshasa.
Since September 29, 2024, PELUM DRC has been a member of PELUM Association, a continental civil society network founded in 1995 and active in 14 African countries. The network works directly or indirectly with local communities and small-scale farmers and pastoralists on sustainable agriculture and natural resource management.
Mission, Vision & Mandate
Strengthen the capacities of member organizations (MOs) so that they, in turn, effectively support Congolese farmers and breeders in land management and sustainable agriculture in order to improve livelihoods.
Congolese small-scale agro-pastoral farmers are thriving and earn their livelihoods from ecological agriculture.
PELUM DRC’s mandate is to strengthen the capacities of member organizations to enable them to promote ecological, organic and biological agriculture effectively and efficiently through sustainable land management and environmental protection, while improving the socio-economic living conditions of small-scale Congolese agro-pastoral farmers.
The main objective of PELUM DRC is to promote participatory land and natural resource management through agroecology in order to improve livelihoods through training, extension and dissemination of good agroecological, organic and biological practices.
